Maritime safety and prevention at the center of the Sardinia Boat Show talk
Maritime safety, emergency management, and risk prevention in the boating sector were the focus of the talk “Nautica Safety and Security”, held during the afternoon of the opening day of the Sardinia Boat Show 2026 at the Marina di Porto Rotondo.
The discussion was moderated by Angelo Colombo, organizational manager of the Sardinia Boat Show. Speakers included Franco Cudoni, Director of the Emergency and Urgency Department of AOU Sassari; Gianluca D’Agostino, Maritime Director of Northern Sardinia; Antonio Irione, General Director of ASL Gallura; Nicola Micele, Regional Director of the Fire Brigade for Sardinia; Settimo Nizzi, Mayor of the Municipality of Olbia; and Andrea Piccioli, General Director of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità.
Opening the discussion, Maritime Director of Northern Sardinia Gianluca D’Agostino provided an overview of the main critical issues related to maritime safety and border control, highlighting the role of cooperation between the Coast Guard, Guardia di Finanza, Border Police, and Fire Brigade in emergency management and territorial monitoring.
On the topic of inter-agency cooperation, Franco Cudoni, Director of the Emergency and Urgency Department of AOU Sassari, emphasized how the protection of health and safety at sea requires integrated work among all institutions involved, including local healthcare facilities. The shared objective that emerged during the debate was to ensure effective interventions and the rapid restoration of safe and healthy conditions in critical situations.
The Mayor of Olbia, Settimo Nizzi, focused instead on the difficulties linked to the current European regulatory framework, pointing out that institutions still do not have fully adequate tools for the control and monitoring of flows across the Mediterranean.
Significant attention was also devoted to fire risk prevention in shipyards. Nicola Micele, Regional Director of the Fire Brigade for Sardinia, illustrated the main operational challenges related to materials used in shipbuilding and the measures necessary to guarantee high safety standards.
During the talk, the strong connection between the health of the sea and the health of citizens was also highlighted. The sea was described as a single ecosystem whose balance directly affects people’s well-being, while emphasizing the need for all boating activities to comply with precise health and environmental standards.
