Tourist ports, the Regione Sardegna approves the plan
The Regione Sardegna takes a new step in planning the recreational boating sector with the approval of the Regional Plan for the Tourist Port Network (PRRPT), a tool aimed at strengthening the island’s competitiveness in the Mediterranean. The measure identifies tourist ports as a strategic sector for economic development and for enhancing the coastal system, with the goal of reducing the gap with the national average in terms of berths per kilometer of coastline.
The plan provides for a more balanced distribution of moorings along the island’s coastline. The objective is to ensure continuity in recreational navigation and improve access to nautical services. Currently, Sardinia has حوالي 25,000 berths, with a ratio of 13.2 berths per kilometer of coastline, below the national average of 20.5. The PRRPT therefore aims to progressively close this gap.
New infrastructure planned
Among the planned interventions is the addition of approximately 4,000 new berths in the medium to long term. The expansion of the network is expected to take place through:
- the construction of six new tourist ports;
- the development of thirteen additional port facilities with a minimum capacity of 200 berths each.
The objective is to strengthen nautical accommodation capacity and support the growth of the sector.
Integration between coast and inland areas
The regional plan introduces an integrated vision of tourism development. Port infrastructure is considered as part of a broader network capable of generating economic benefits for inland areas through services, hospitality, and related supply chains. Particular attention is given to navigation safety and the year-round usability of facilities, with the aim of reducing seasonality in tourist flows.
A strategic planning tool
With the PRRPT, the Region aims to establish a comprehensive framework to guide public and private investments in the recreational boating sector. The plan seeks to support economic growth, improve the quality of port services, and strengthen Sardinia’s position among the leading nautical destinations in the Mediterranean.
