Yacht Interior Summit 2027: design and refit, prospects for Sardinia’s nautical industry
The evolution of yacht and superyacht interiors involves a value chain that brings together design, engineering, craftsmanship and manufacturing technologies. These areas of expertise will be the focus of the Yacht Interior Summit 2027, organised by RedCabin and hosted by Oceanco on 3–4 March in Alblasserdam, the Netherlands. The event will bring together designers, engineers, suppliers and outfitting specialists, aiming to connect the development of ideas with their implementation at the shipyard.
Announced topics include lightweight materials, additive manufacturing, supply availability, and colour, material and finish solutions. Discussions will also draw on experience from aviation and the automotive industry, encouraging knowledge exchange between sectors with different requirements and complementary expertise.
From interiors to business opportunities
The programme outlined by PressMare also covers the refurbishment of onboard spaces, customisation and the use of digital technologies. Interior refits require new living and functional requirements to be integrated with the technical characteristics of existing vessels, coordinating designers, shipyards and specialist suppliers.
For Sardinia, these themes offer a tangible development opportunity: expanding the range of manufacturing activities and services that local businesses can offer the international nautical industry. Bespoke furniture, coverings, components and onboard systems integration are potential areas in which manufacturing capabilities and technical expertise can meet shipyard demand.
This outlook is consistent with the Regional Plan for the Internationalisation of Sardinia’s Nautical Industry, funded by the Regional Government and implemented by CIPNES Gallura, which aims to support exports, attract productive investment and strengthen relationships with international operators. Within this strategy, the presence of yachts and superyachts in Sardinian waters provides a foundation for developing lasting economic opportunities for the region.
Education supporting the industry in Olbia
The growth of manufacturing activities requires professionals who can bring together design, materials and onboard systems. The University of Cagliari’s degree programme in Naval Engineering, delivered in Olbia, forms part of this context. The programme develops expertise in design, materials, manufacturing processes and marine systems, providing technical foundations that are also relevant to coordinating the various activities involved in outfitting a vessel.
The international discussion on interiors therefore offers a useful perspective for the Sardinia Boat Show, whose role is to connect Sardinia’s manufacturing capabilities with shipyards, buyers and investors. Construction, refit, components, craftsmanship and education are all part of the same value chain: strengthening these connections can improve Sardinian businesses’ access to contracts and partnerships in overseas markets.
