Study 2025: over 3,100 yachts and 347 superyachts recorded in Gallura

In 2025, Gallura strengthens its position as one of the leading areas in the Mediterranean for high-end boating, confirming a role that goes beyond tourist appeal to include the territory’s ability to act as a strategic platform for the boating industry and for attracting international investment in Sardinia. Data from the summer season (June–September) show a clear growth trend: the Coast Guard’s Pelagus system recorded 3,114 unique yachts along the stretch of coastline from Costa Smeralda to the La Maddalena Archipelago, from Santa Teresa Gallura to San Teodoro, marking a 15.8% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

Within this overall flow, the analysis identified 347 superyachts, with an estimated value of $21.1 billion (source: Superyachtfan). However, the most significant figure concerns the financial dimension associated with the presence of these vessels: the owners of the surveyed superyachts come from 51 countries and have a combined estimated wealth of approximately $2 trillion (source: Forbes), a scale that reflects the magnitude of mobile wealth interacting with the Gallura area each summer.

The results emerge from the second study on superyacht presence in Gallura conducted by Cipnes Gallura through its Research Center, in collaboration with UniOlbia and the Maritime Directorate of Northern Sardinia. The research was presented in Milan at Insula, a hub dedicated to promoting Sardinian agri-food products, before an audience of national and international companies and investors. The study is part of the three-year plan for the internationalization of the boating industry, promoted by the Regione Sardegna through its relevant departments, with Cipnes acting as the implementing body.

One of the distinctive elements of the research is its methodology, considered unique in Europe for its rigor and integration of sources. The work is based on a protocol between Cipnes and the Maritime Directorate, allowing for the systematic use of certified institutional data, integrated with specialized international platforms. This approach makes it possible to accurately measure high-end boating demand and avoid distortions typical of traditional surveys, counting only vessels that are effectively identifiable and comparable.

The analysis covers seven strategic areas of the Gallura coastline, monitored through monthly data extraction from the Pelagus system. The methodological choice to count only unique MMSI identifiers ensures that each vessel is recorded only once, even in the case of movements between multiple areas or prolonged anchorage, guaranteeing greater statistical reliability. Cross-referencing with international databases made it possible to associate the identified superyachts with detailed information on size, shipyards, value, and ownership, reconstructing a solid and comparable overall framework.

The international composition of owners confirms Gallura as a global hub: the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, and Germany are among the most represented nationalities, alongside the Netherlands, France, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia. The data highlight a predominantly European presence, but with a significant non-European component, consistent with the international nature of the superyacht segment.

The study also highlights a key industrial aspect: Gallura is not only a place of transit or stay, but a context in which economic supply chains related to advanced services are activated. Refit, maintenance, repair, and storage represent a growing component of the regional maritime economy and one of the areas with the greatest development potential. The report also notes the presence of production linked to high-end boating, such as tenders and RIBs, which contribute to strengthening the local ecosystem.

On the shipbuilding front, the analysis confirms the strength of Made in Italy, with a significant share of Italian-built superyachts present in Gallura’s waters, alongside the leading role of the Netherlands and Germany in high-end global shipbuilding. Overall, the 2025 study confirms that Gallura represents one of the largest concentrations of private wealth in the Mediterranean and a platform capable of generating economic value, industrial opportunities, and investment prospects for Sardinia.
